A new study has revealed that the average office employee receives a staggering 1,738 inane emails every year – many of which would be better expressed in person.

    I think you estimate is low because I doesn't mention the idiot factor we all encounter . That is the person who is incapable of reading pasted the 1st point or question .
    I literally have to email them back to let them know that their one word answer to the 1st question was too ambiguous and how about responding to the subsequent question or points?
    An old fashioned phone call could have eliminated a typical waste of time and (my) patience, and produced a CONCLUSION.
    What a concept !!!
