Lighter Side: Don’t be Mad, Men

Do you have clients whose, erm, character flaws make them difficult to work with? Well, you might want to think twice before you unleash an onslaught of pithy remarks – lest you end up looking like Melanie, Don Draper’s competent but cruel Realtor.
For those who don’t follow AMC’s Mad Men, the main character Don Draper is attempting to sell his Manhattan penthouse following a divorce. His agent, however, has a few choice words for his unkempt and patio-furnished abode.
“I'm not a magician,” she sourly tells him. “I have to show it to people with their eyes open. And you know what it looks like? It looks like a sad person lives here. And what happened to him? He got divorced and spilled wine on the carpeting and didn't care enough to replace it. Even for himself.”
Don’t get us wrong, Don Draper’s a pig, but he’s still a client and maybe Melanie should avoid calling him a lonely man if she wants his referral business.
