Sold on you: A real estate love story

Who says real estate isn’t romantic? Surely not Maya Day and Rob Jastrzebski, two real estate agents who found love at a property showing, of all places.
Maya and Rob met at a Century 21 Canada conference in Regina in 2003. Both being “first-timers” and native Albertans, they hit it off and stayed in touch. They would refer clients to one another and occasionally grab breakfast together to discuss business strategies.
In 2008, Rob asked to see one of Maya’s listings in Sherwood Park. When Maya followed up, Rob asked her out to lunch, where they discovered that they were both single.
Maya says Rob understood the nature of the business – being a sales rep himself. They respected one another, and Rob respected Maya’s existing family – her two teenaged children.
“We had an immediate respect for one another as we both were successful, hard-working and enthusiastic about our careers,” she said. “This is a very important aspect of what makes us work.”
At a recent vacation in Miami, Rob directed the family to a particular spot on the boardwalk, and asked Maya’s son to take a picture of the sky. A plane pulled a banner across the sky, reading Maya, I (heart) you.  Will you marry me? Rob.
Rob then got on bended knee and asked Maya – and her children – to marry him.
And the rest is happily ever after.
“We considered that lunch as the start to our relationship – our ‘anniversary’ – and set our wedding for the same day, seven years later,” Maya said.
