This for That: Alternatives to Ontario's priciest market

by REP26 Sep 2014

You’d need at least half a million dollars to buy a half-decent house in Toronto’s current real estate market. But what can you get for that price in the city’s suburbs? You've asked and now we’re telling. You can get this for that. . .

In Toronto for $495,000

A particular house is currently listed at just under $495,000 in up-and-coming Upper Beach neighbourhood of Toronto. The detached two-bedroom, one-bathroom, two-storey home has two parking spots (no garage) and features a renovated kitchen and bathroom.

In Burlington for $475,000

For even less, you can live even closer to the water in Burlington. This sprawling two-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow has two garages – one attached, one detached – and a recently renovated kitchen and bathroom. The lot is also nearly double its Toronto counterpart.

In Newmarket for $450,000

Dropping the price again will not yield a smaller home. This lot is even larger than those in Toronto and Burlington, and the home boasts a total of four parking spots – including a garage and carport. The bungalow has an upgraded kitchen, a professionally finished basement and a recently updated in-ground pool.

In Oshawa for $425,000

For a $70,000 discount, Torontonians can live lakeside in Oshawa. This two-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow features a modern kitchen and bathroom, a huge lot, and is situated on a private road. Oh, and did we mention it’s on the lake?
