Home sales were up in May, according to the latest stats from CREA, which point to significant increases in transactions and prices across the board as consumers looked to evade mortgage premiums.

When so called experts post that there is a % increase in sales, remember that a % of 0 still equals 0. There may be a sudden boom in one sector of the market, but this does not reflect the overall market. Here in Montreal, certain pockets are very popular and homes are, in fact, selling. But this is not a reflection of what is happening in general throughout the market. In the off-island area of Montreal, for example, overall sales are way down. They may only be 5% down from last year, but last year was 5% down from the year before. Face it - other than Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, the rest of the country is experiencing a recession where home sales are concerned. Why else would boards now be charging for on-line forms if not for the fact that a lot of agents have hung up their hats and turned in their licenses?
